🛠️How to Be a Christian Man in a World Gone Sideways
Let me shoot straight with you.
The world’s gone sideways. You know it. I know it. What used to be clear as daylight is now up for debate. Boys don’t know if they’re boys, wrong is being called right, and folks are acting like God packed up and left town. But He hasn’t. And He never will.
Now, I’m no theologian in a tower. I’m just a tech-guy-turned-elder who’s walked through war zones, office politics, and backwoods churches. But I’ve seen enough to know this—if you don’t stand for something eternal, you’ll fall for everything temporary.
So here’s the question I’ve been chewing on lately: How does a Christian man stay grounded when the ground keeps shifting? I don’t have all the answers, but I’ve picked up a few things over the years that might help a man stay upright in a crooked world.
Let’s walk through it together.
🧍‍♂️ 1. Stand Like a Soldier
I served back in Vietnam, and one thing the Army drilled into me was this: when you’re under fire, you don’t panic—you stand your ground. It’s the same in the Christian life. We’re in a spiritual war, and the enemy doesn’t play fair.
Paul laid it out plain:
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13
That phrase “act like men” isn’t about being macho. It’s about being mature, steady, and dependable. The kind of man who holds the line when everyone else runs for cover. That takes courage—and not the Hollywood kind. I’m talking about biblical courage: the kind that says, “Even if the world burns down, I’m staying faithful to Jesus.”
And listen, that doesn’t mean you won’t get knocked down. It just means you won’t stay down. Proverbs 24:16 says:
“Though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again.”
If you’ve fallen—get back up, brother. Lace up your boots and keep walking in truth.
🛡️ 2. Lead with Courage, Not Noise
There’s a lot of bark these days but not much backbone. Social media has made men louder, but not braver. We confuse volume with value, outrage with conviction.
But godly leadership doesn’t look like a man banging his fists on the table. It looks like Jesus, who led with truth and love—and sometimes silence.
“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:7
Jesus knew when to speak, and when to stand. As Christian men, we’ve got to learn that too. Sometimes leading means saying “no” to sin. Other times it means saying “yes” to the hard work of reconciliation.
Your leadership starts at home. Can your wife count on you to pray with her? Do your kids see you reading the Bible? Do you speak with honor even when you’re frustrated? That’s leadership. That’s courage.
The truth is, a lot of men want to change the world but won’t change a diaper or wash a dish. Start small. Start where you are. Be faithful in little things, and God will trust you with more (Luke 16:10).
🔨 3. Build a Life That Preaches Louder Than Your Words
Talk is cheap. I’ve heard men quote Scripture while cheating on their taxes. I’ve seen Bible apps on the phones of guys who won’t open their mouths to say grace at the dinner table.
But here’s the deal—your life is the sermon. Every day you get to preach it. What are folks hearing?
“In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” – Titus 2:7
Your faith should be visible in how you drive in traffic, how you handle your money, how you treat the waitress who forgot your coffee. Small stuff? Maybe. But the world’s watching—and more importantly, your kids are watching.
They’ll forget your advice, but they’ll remember your example.
I remember my dad praying before bed even when he was dog-tired. I remember a friend who showed up with jumper cables at midnight. Those things stick. That’s legacy.
⛺ 4. Camp Out in the Word of God
If you’re not rooted in something unchanging, this world will eat you alive. That’s not drama. That’s reality.
You can’t build a godly life on Instagram quotes and podcasts alone. You’ve got to feast on the Word of God like your soul depends on it—because it does.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4
Some days, I don’t feel like reading. Other days I can’t get enough. But I make it a habit because God’s Word gives me clarity when the fog rolls in.
Reading Scripture isn’t about checking a box. It’s about hearing from your Commander-in-Chief. Want to know how to love your wife better? Start in Ephesians 5. Need to fight temptation? Camp out in Psalm 119. Struggling with fear or anxiety? Philippians 4 is your field manual.
You don’t have to read 10 chapters a day. Start small. Read slow. Pray it in. Live it out.
🪵 5. Find a Band of Brothers
Here’s something I learned in combat—you never go alone. You cover each other. You fight back-to-back. You watch each other’s blind spots.
Same thing in the Church.
“Two are better than one… If one falls, the other can help him up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
Too many Christian men are trying to white-knuckle their way through life with no accountability, no brotherhood, no help. Then they wonder why they keep falling into the same ditches.
I’ve got a couple of men I can call when I’m discouraged, when I’ve messed up, or when I just need prayer. No pretending. Just real talk and real faith.
Find those men. Be that man. That’s where strength multiplies.
🔥 Final Thoughts: Stay Lit in a Dark World
The world is full of compromise. Truth gets twisted, and masculinity gets mocked. But that just makes your light shine brighter.
You don’t have to be flashy. You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to be faithful.
- Faithful to your God
- Faithful to your family
- Faithful to your brothers in Christ
- Faithful to truth when no one else is
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
Men, the darkness is real. But so is our God. And His light in you is more than enough to push back the night.
So keep standing. Keep serving. Keep showing up. Even when the world’s upside-down.
Because in the end, it’s not about being popular—it’s about being faithful.

We’re not alone in this.
